Before you can train, fight or transform you need a character. DragonMineZ's creation flow has two screens, race selection and customization, plus three detailed editors: the hair editor, the skin pixel editor and the custom tattoo painter. This page walks through all of them. To learn what each race or class does, see Races and Classes; for the stats you start with, see Stats and Attributes.
Opening the creator
gameplay- By default the creation screen opens by itself when you join a world without a character.
- If the server turned that off, press the Stats Menu key (V by default) to start. Until you do, the HUD shows the hint "Press [V] to begin your adventure!".
- The first time through, a short interactive tutorial explains each step: press Enter or Space for the next step, or Esc to skip. You can turn tutorials off on the welcome popup, and bring them back later from the Config tab (Interface → Show Tutorials Again).
Race selection
A carousel shows every race loaded on the server: the seven default races (Human, Saiyan, Namekian, Frost Demon, Bio-Android, Majin and Glind) plus any custom races added by the server or an add-on.
- Use the arrows under the model to browse races; each race has its own panorama background.
- The left side shows the race description; the right panel lists its racial skills with your server's live values (scroll if the list is long).
- Press Select to move on to customization with that race. Switching race resets the appearance to that race's defaults.
Customization
The customization screen is split into tabs; a progress bar in the bottom-right shows which step you are on. Use Back and Next to move between tabs, and Confirm on the last one to create your character. You can drag the model to rotate it at any time.
Every color button opens a color picker with Hue, Saturation and Value sliders and a hex field (for example #FFD3C9). Options are shown as a grid of small model previews: click one to pick it.
Body
- Body type: the grid shows every body type of your race. For races with gender (Human, Saiyan, Majin and Glind) the male and female body types share the same grid, so picking a body type also picks your gender. For Humans and Saiyans, body type 0 uses your own Minecraft skin.
- Body colors: three body color slots (Bio-Androids get a fourth one, the hair color, which tints part of their body).
- Chest Size: female characters get a slider from ×0.75 to ×1.25.
Hair
This tab only appears for races with hair or head parts.
- Head parts and hairstyles: the grid holds a "none" option, your race's head parts (Namekian antennae, Frost Demon horns, the Majin head tentacle, Glind ears) and, for races that can use hair (Human, Saiyan, Majin and Glind), the 28 hairstyle presets (including Bald). Head parts of the same kind replace each other; a Majin can combine a tentacle and a hairstyle, and a Glind its ears and a hairstyle.
- Hair color.
- Edit opens the hair editor (see below).
- Skin Pixels (a small icon, only when you use your Minecraft skin) opens the skin pixel editor in hair mode.
Eyes
- The eye type grid and the two eye colors (left and right). The small button between them copies the first color to the second.
- Skin Pixels (only when you use your Minecraft skin) opens the skin pixel editor in eyes mode.
Face
Nose and Mouth grids. Glinds use the human face parts; the other races can also pick the human face parts, listed after their own.
Tattoo
The Tattoo grid. The last card, Custom, lets you paint your own tattoo: select it and press Edit to open the tattoo painter (see below). It isn't offered when the server has custom tattoos turned off.
Class and aura
- Class: browse the classes with the arrows. The panel shows the class's base stats, scalings and regeneration, and the right side explains its passive. See Classes.
- Aura: choose how your aura looks: 2D Aura, 3D: Smooth or 3D: Sparking (Glinds also get 3D: God, a constantly shifting flame). This is a personal visual preference; other players see your aura in the style you picked. Some forms override the 3D style; for example, Legendary forms always use the Sparking style. You can change it later from the Config tab (see Menus).
- Aura color.
Transformation preview
On the Hair tab (or on the Body tab for races without hair options) a pair of arrows lets you cycle through your race's transformations, so you can see how your colors, hair and body look in every form before confirming. It is only a preview: nothing is unlocked.
After you press Confirm, your character is created and, if tutorials are on, a short HUD tour follows (see HUD).
Hair editor
The hair editor builds your hairstyle out of individual strands, in the style of Blockbench. Open it from:
- the Edit button on the Hair tab (when creating or re-customizing your character), or
- the Haircut option of Mr. Popo at Kami's Lookout, at any time (outside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and only for characters with hair).
Hairstyles and slots
Your character has 5 hairstyle slots: Base, SSJ, SSJ2, SSJ3 and SSJ4. You wear the Base style normally; a transformation switches to the slot it uses, so you can design how your hair changes when you transform. Pick the slot at the top of the editor.
- Preset: start from any of the 28 presets (or Bald). Presets 2 (Vegeta) and 8 (Raditz) were redrawn in version 2.2.
- Hair color: the global color of all your hair.
- Copy from another slot, or Clear style.
- Auto-generate: with no strand selected, the Inspector can build your SSJ, SSJ2, SSJ3 and SSJ4 styles from your Base style, all at once or one slot at a time (Generate from Base). It is a single undo step and switches to the generated slot. Long straight hair keeps its roots and only curls the tips up, and SSJ3 uses a Super Saiyan 3 mane that keeps your hanging bangs. It needs a Base style.
- The panel shows how many strands and segments the style uses against the server limit.
Editing strands
Strands grow from a grid on the five faces of the head (Front, Back, Left, Right and Top). Select an empty spot and press Add strand, or click an existing strand. The Inspector lets you set:
- Transform: Offset X/Y/Z and Rotation X/Y/Z.
- Shape: Segments, Length, Falloff, Width, Depth, Taper and Taper curve; Joints as Blocks or Connected.
- Curve: Bend X/Y/Z and Twist.
- Color: a per-strand color and tip color (Auto uses your hair color).
- Segments: Alt + click a segment to scale its Length, Width and Depth on its own (Reset segment undoes it).
- Copy and Paste a strand, To all (copy it to every other slot) and Clear.
Right-click any value to reset it.
Viewport controls
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Select a strand / a segment | Click / Alt + click |
| Grow or shrink | Shift + drag |
| Rotate | Alt + drag |
| Curve | Ctrl + drag |
| Add / remove a segment | Right-click a strand / Shift + right-click |
| Orbit / pan the camera | Drag / right drag |
| Show or hide the body | Right-click empty space |
| Copy / paste a strand | Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V |
| Clear the selected strand | Delete |
| Undo / redo | Ctrl + Z / Ctrl + Y (or Ctrl + Shift + Z) |
The top bar also has Hairbase (show or hide the painted hair layer on the scalp), Physics (preview how the hair moves), Mirror (every edit is copied to the matching strand on the other side), Undo and Redo. View buttons snap the camera to Front, Back, Left, Right or Reset.
Sharing hairstyles
- Style: export the current slot to your clipboard as a code, or import one.
- Full: export or import all 5 slots at once.
- Codes start with
DMZ22:(style) orDMZF22:(full). Codes made in version 2.1 (DMZ1:andDMZF1:) can still be imported. - Hair Salon opens the DragonMineZ Hair Salon website (dragonminez.com/hairsalon) in your browser, after a confirmation.
Press Save to apply, or Cancel (you are asked before unsaved changes are discarded).
Server limits
hairThe server limits every style: at most 12 segments per strand, 600 segments per style, a strand length of 20 per hair type, a strand width of 8 and a root offset of 2. Styles over the limits are trimmed by the server.
Skin pixel editor
If you play with your own Minecraft skin (body type 0 on a Human or Saiyan), DragonMineZ can't know which pixels of your skin are eyes or hair. The pixel editor lets you mark them by painting directly on the 3D model, so your transformations can recolor them:
- Eyes (3 steps): mark the eyebrows (they take the hair color of each form), the white of the eyes and the iris (the left eye takes the first eye color of each form and the right eye the second; the legend shows them as Left iris and Right iris). Your base form keeps your skin's own eyes untouched.
- Hair (2 steps): mark the hair pixels of the base layer, then of the overlay layer (hat and jacket). Marked hair always follows your hair color, including form colors when you transform.
Controls: drag on the model to paint, hold Alt or use the Eraser button to erase, Shift + drag for a straight axis line, and click then Shift + click for a line from A to B. Double-click to fill that whole side of the body part under the cursor (or to clear it with Alt or the Eraser). Drag outside the model, or hold Ctrl and drag anywhere, to rotate it: the camera turns freely, even over the top of the model. Right drag to pan and use the mouse wheel to zoom. Ctrl + Z undoes, Ctrl + Y or Ctrl + X redoes.
The buttons in the top-left corner of the view snap the camera to Front, Back, Left, Right, Top or Bottom; Reset also brings back the default zoom and center. The Parts figure in the top-right corner shows or hides the head, body, arms and legs: click a part to hide or show it, or Shift + click to show only that part (do it again to show them all). Hidden parts can't be painted, so hiding one lets you reach the sides it covers, such as the inside of the arms.
The top bar has Undo, Redo, Clear, Overlay (show the overlay layer and paint on it), Hair (show the 3D hair), Eraser, Fill, Save and Cancel. With Fill on, a click paints every visible pixel of the color you click in one go; the area is highlighted before you click, and with the Eraser on or Alt held it erases that area instead. The Preview row cycles through your transformations so you can check the result. Only the visible layer can be painted.
Custom tattoo
Choosing the Custom tattoo on the Tattoo tab and pressing Edit opens the same editor in tattoo mode: a free brush using the color picker (sliders and hex), painted on the model at a resolution of 64, 128 or 256 pixels. Overlay cubes are hidden while you paint.
- 128 and 256 are a Patreon benefit (also available to Staff): for everyone else those buttons are locked ("Reserved for Patreons and Staff"), and the server scales any bigger tattoo down to 64.
- Server owners can turn custom tattoos off. Then the Custom card and its Edit button are gone, custom tattoos already painted aren't shown, and the server ignores new ones.
Pixel marks and custom tattoos are saved with your character and shown to every player.
Changing your look later
- The Re-Customize wish (Shenron or Porunga, see Dragons and Wishes) reopens the customization screen (the last button reads Update). You can change your appearance and class, but not your race; your stats and skills are kept.
- The Haircut option of Mr. Popo reopens the hair editor at any time.
- Your aura style can be changed at any time from the Config tab.
- Admins:
/dmzhair reset [targets]restores a player's default race hair and clears all custom styles;/dmzhair resync [targets]re-sends a player's appearance to nearby players;/dmzclasschanges class. See Commands.
Appearance changes are only accepted at character creation, with a Re-Customize wish or (for hair) at Mr. Popo, and every value is checked by the server.
