Transformations
Every race in DragonMineZ has transformations, organized into form groups. A transformation multiplies your stats but usually drains a resource (Ki, stamina or health) while it is active, and you build mastery in a form by using it. You unlock forms one after another with Training Points, mastery and progress in the story, and every race can add a stack form such as Kaioken on top. This page explains the rules shared by every race; each race page lists its own forms.
How forms work
- Every form belongs to a group: a race's Super forms, its Legendary forms, the Saiyan SS Grades and so on.
- Groups are unlocked by form skills: Super Forms for the race's main lines, Legendary Forms for its Legendary line and Android Forms for Androids. You raise a form skill one level at a time with Training Points (TP) in the Skills menu, and each level unlocks the forms that need it.
- To unlock the next form in a group you need all of:
- its TP cost (the price of the form skill level it needs);
- 25% mastery on the previous form in that group;
- its story requisite, if it has one: the form stays locked until you complete a specific saga quest (see below).
- While transformed you pay an upkeep drain. Mastery lowers this cost (see Mastery).
- Locked forms show what they are waiting for in the Skills menu, for example "Locked until: Frieza Saga - Quest 10".
- By default the multipliers of your form, your stack form and your effects add up instead of multiplying each other.
Transforming
- Hold X to open the utility menu. The Super Forms slice holds your Super, Legendary and Android form groups, and Extra Forms holds every other form group of your race. Click a form to select it as your next transformation.
- Hold G (the action key) to charge the selected form.
- Double-tap G, double-click the form in the menu or press the Instant Transform key (unbound by default) to transform instantly. Instant transformation is a mastery perk: it unlocks at 40% mastery and costs 4 times the form's drain in Ki.
- Transitions are gradual: while you charge a form, your colors and model size (hitbox included) blend toward the target form, and a form with a different body (such as a buffed or giant model) morphs into shape as the charge fills. Reverting shrinks, fades and morphs you back over about a second.
Story requisites
Most race transformations are tied to your progress in the story mode: you can't buy them until you have completed the listed quest.
| Complete this quest | To unlock |
|---|---|
| Classic Saga, quest 46 Training at the Lookout | Human Buffed · Saiyan Super Saiyan · Namekian Giant · Frost Demon Second Form · Majin Kid Majin · Bio-Android Semi-Perfect · Glind Buffed |
| Saiyan Saga, quest 12 Defeat Oozaru Vegeta | Human Full Power · Saiyan SSJ Grade 2 · Frost Demon Third Form · Glind Out of Control |
| Frieza Saga, quest 5 Zarbon's True Form | Saiyan SSJ Grade 3 · Majin Evil Majin · Bio-Android Perfect |
| Frieza Saga, quest 10 Captain Ginyu | Human Overdrive · Android Super Android · Namekian Full Power · Frost Demon Final Form · Glind Super |
| Android Saga, quest 4 Three Years of Preparation | Saiyan SSJ Mastered |
| Android Saga, quest 15 Super Perfect Cell | Saiyan SSJ 2 |
| Buu Saga, quest 1 Train with Goten and Gohan | Saiyan SSJ 3 and Golden Oozaru · Android Fused Android · Frost Demon Full Power · Majin Super Majin · Bio-Android Super Perfect · Glind Absorption |
| Buu Saga, quest 35 Return to Earth | Human Solaris · Saiyan SSJ 4 [GT] and SSJ 4 [D] · Namekian Super Namekian · Frost Demon Fifth Form · Majin Ultra Majin · Bio-Android Ultra Perfect · Glind True Form |
The quest number is the one shown in the lock message; quests added later in a saga keep their own number. The last form of each race (the Buu Saga quest 35 row) is its top tier: it is the strongest form, but Ultimate never copies it.
Oozaru, the Legendary lines and the stack forms (Kaioken, Ultimate) have no story requisite.
Energy consumption while transformed
The Ki drain values on the race pages are base values. What you actually pay each tick is scaled by several things, so the real cost is usually higher than the listed figure, and it grows with your own power:
- Which resource. Most forms drain Ki (energy); a few drain stamina or health instead (Kaioken drains health). A negative value counts as zero: the form costs nothing to hold (the Frost Demon Metal forms).
- Power Release. The drain scales directly with your current Power Release (the percentage you charge with C). Fighting at 100% release costs the most; powering down lowers the upkeep.
- Your offensive power. Once your base STR, SKP and PWR (your stats, class scalings and Power Release, not the form's own multipliers) pass 5 times your max Ki, the form costs proportionally more to hold. Forms that drain stamina or health compare against 1.5 times that pool instead. A stronger form doesn't cost more just for being stronger: its own drain value sets the price. A percentage of your max Ki is also added on top, so bigger pools pay bigger upkeep.
- Mastery. This is the discount. As a form's mastery climbs, its cost multiplier drops toward ×0.75 at 100% mastery, and it discounts the whole upkeep, including the percentage of your max Ki (or stamina or health). With a stack form on top, each form's own mastery discounts its share of the drain.
- Stacking. Layering a stack form multiplies the drain of both your form and the stack form (×2 with the default forms), which is why stacked transformations burn resources fast.
- Server baseline. A global form drain setting and the load of equipped weights scale everything further.
Running out
Each tick the game checks that you can afford the drain. If you can't pay the Ki (or stamina or health), the form and any stack form are forcibly deactivated and you revert to base with a "drained" message. Frost Demons past their Final Form drop to Final Form instead. A form you can't sustain keeps collapsing until you raise its mastery, power down or grow your Ki pool.
Descending
The Descend key (Alt + G) drops you one form down the group you are in; a stack form is removed first. With a racial skill selected, Alt + G triggers the racial skill's secondary action instead. Descending from the radial (X) menu does the same, but ignores the Frost Demon evolution floor. With no form active, Descend releases your power back to 0%.
You can't descend out of the Saiyan False Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan God forms.
Mastery
Mastery (0 to 100% per form) measures how well you control a transformation. As it climbs it unlocks these perks:
| Mastery | Unlocks |
|---|---|
| 25% | Lets you unlock the next form in the group, and lets you stack a stack form (such as Kaioken) on this form. |
| 40% | Instant transformation: skip the charge-up by paying 4 times the form's drain in Ki. |
| 50% | Transform straight into it from base or from another group, without climbing the ladder. The first form of each group never needs this. |
| 100% | Full mastery: up to ×1.5 stats and drain reduced to ×0.75. |
Mastery is earned per transformation, only while that form is active. By default each hit you land or take gives 0.025%, and you also gain 0.004% passively every 5 seconds. Hit mastery only counts at 50% Power Release or more and grows with the size of the hit, up to 4 times for a hit of 80% of the target's max health or more. Mastery Capsules add 5% to your active form (see Items), and the Frost Demon racial skill, the Mutant status and the Mastery Multiplier effect speed it up.
Some forms share mastery with related forms: every Kaioken tier passes 25% of its gains to the next tier, and the two Glind Time Power forms share 50% with each other. Admins can check and set mastery with /dmzmastery (see Commands).
Stack forms
Stack forms layer on top of your normal transformation for an extra multiplier at a heavier upkeep. They are skills, not race forms, so every race can learn them.
| Stack form | Tiers | Drain | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kaioken | x2 · x3 · x4 · x10 · x20 | Health | Taught by King Kai |
| Ultimate | 1 | None | Clear Old Kai's Ultimate Challenge |
To stack, your current form needs at least 25% mastery, and so does the stack form if it asks for mastery of its own (the default Kaioken tiers don't); otherwise the stack form is dropped when you transform. Ultimate is the exception: it isn't used on top of another form, but copies your best unlocked form and adds its own bonus.
Legendary forms
Every race has a Legendary form line with 3 levels (Glinds get two alternative forms on the third), but its default TP cost is -1: it can't be bought with Training Points. The Races page lists every race's Legendary forms. Androids lose this line when they are upgraded.
Earning them in the story
Three quests of the Movies Saga grant the Legendary Forms skill one level at a time:
| Movies Saga quest | Opens | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| 30 Broly's Second Coming | After Buu Saga quest 22 | Legendary Forms level 1 |
| 34 Giant Bio-Broly | After Buu Saga quest 35 | Legendary Forms level 2 |
| 40 Super Hildegarn | After GT Saga quest 30 or Daima Saga quest 11 | Legendary Forms level 3 |
Borrowing them as a Mutant
Every 30 minutes the server may pick a random player (20% chance, one Mutant at a time by default) to become a Mutant, a status that is lost on death by default. Admins can also grant it with /dmzeffect give mutant -1 <player>.
- Mutants gain ×1.25 TP and ×1.5 mastery.
- They fill a green rage meter by dealing and taking significant hits; mixing melee, strike and ki attacks fills it faster.
- With a full meter, a Mutant can transform into Legendary forms they don't own yet. A borrowed form is worth your best unlocked non-legendary form (with its mastery) +0.5 to each stat bonus, scaled per stat like the Legendary form, but never more than the Legendary form itself at full mastery.
- A full meter inside a Legendary form turns into active rage for 10 seconds, during which the Legendary forms you do own get +33% bonus power.
- When the rage ends, borrowed forms revert down to your highest owned form (or base). The meter drains when you stay out of combat, and dying resets it.
- Mutants never get the Saiyan False Super Saiyan form.
mutantMore about the Mutant status is on the Effects page.
Forms you can't buy
A few forms are never bought or selected: the game grants them when something special happens. You can't descend out of them, transform into another form from them or stack a form on them.
- False Super Saiyan (Saiyan): triggered by rage when a Saiyan without any Super form is badly hurt, and it ends when the rage runs out.
- Super Saiyan God (Saiyan): granted by a ritual in which five pure-hearted Saiyans give their Ki to a sixth. It is worth the receiver's strongest form with 30% more of its bonus, and it lasts 5 minutes.
