World Martial Arts Tournament
budokaiThe World Martial Arts Tournament is a four-star bracket tournament held on an island of its own in the oceans of Earth. After a bracket of contenders from every era of the story, you face Gohan in the semi-final, Majin Vegeta in the final and the reigning World Champion, Mr. Satan, in the title match. Bouts end at knockout, so nobody dies. The island is also home to Master Tien and Chiaotzu.
The island
The island is a structure of 172 × 91 × 342 blocks (id budokai_tenkaichi) that generates once per world in an Ocean, Deep Ocean, Lukewarm Ocean, Deep Lukewarm Ocean, Warm Ocean, Cold Ocean or Deep Cold Ocean biome, never in frozen oceans. Its site has to be at least 98% water and keeps away from Ocean Monuments, and the island always faces the same way. It is too big to place at once, so it is built step by step as players come within about 200 blocks of it.
Like every tournament arena, the island can't be built in or broken by survival players (see arena protection), and ki attacks can't damage it (see structure protection).
Finding it
/dmzlocate budokai_tenkaichiprints the island's coordinates (see Finding structures).- Every Capsule Corp Assistant of tier 3 or higher sells a World Martial Arts Tournament Map for 1 Map and 4 Gold Ingots, up to 8 times. If the island hasn't been placed in the world yet, the trade shows as out of stock until it can be located.
Who lives there
- The World Tournament Announcer stands by the ring and hosts the tournament. He talks to every player, teaches nothing and is never drawn as a fighter.
- Mr. Satan, the World Champion, waits near the announcer and gives four side quests.
- Master Tien and Chiaotzu stand together about 130 blocks from the ring. Master Tien teaches the Dodon Ray, the Tri-Beam and the Neo Tri-Beam; Chiaotzu gives three side quests.
Entering
Talk to the World Tournament Announcer, press Tournament and then Enter while you are within 12 blocks of him. He talks to every player, whatever their alignment. The general rules for entering, bouts and parties are on Tournaments.
Format
This tournament is a bracket of 8 seats filled with random contenders. Winners climb the ladder, and fights between two NPCs are decided automatically. After the 3 qualifier rounds, the survivor faces the semi-finalist, then the finalist and finally the champion, so winning alone takes 6 bouts. Only those three are known before you enter; the rest of the draw is revealed once everybody accepts the rules.
With a party, each member has their own seat; if the draw puts two members against each other, they fight a PvP bout. Each bout lasts up to 7 minutes; a bout that runs out of time is void and fought again. The tournament is non-lethal: bouts end at knockout and nobody dies.
Fighters
Semi-final, final and title match
The last three opponents are always the same. Unlike the contenders, they don't get stronger from round to round. Mr. Satan, the reigning champion, is far weaker than the two fighters before him.
| Stage | Fighter | Health / melee / ki | AI tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semi-finalist | Gohan (Buu Saga) | 462,000 / 19,200 / 17,400 | Elite |
| Finalist | Vegeta (Majin Vegeta) | 640,000 / 26,700 / 24,300 | Elite |
| Champion | Mr. Satan | 96,000 / 4,200 / 1,500 | Smart |
Contenders
The contenders come from nine stat tiers. Each tier draws one random character from the pool below, and the drawn fighters are shuffled into the free seats, so a solo bracket uses 7 of the 9 tiers and you can't tell which one you'll meet first. Contenders get 8% stronger for every round already played. The default tiers are:
| Stat tier | Health / melee / ki | AI tier |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 147,000 / 6,100 / 5,500 | Smart |
| 2 | 168,000 / 7,000 / 6,300 | Smart |
| 3 | 189,000 / 7,900 / 7,100 | Smart |
| 4 | 213,500 / 8,900 / 8,000 | Smart |
| 5 | 245,000 / 10,200 / 9,200 | Elite |
| 6 | 280,000 / 11,700 / 10,500 | Elite |
| 7 | 315,000 / 13,100 / 11,800 | Elite |
| 8 | 350,000 / 14,600 / 13,100 | Elite |
| 9 | 392,000 / 16,300 / 14,700 | Elite |
The pool is the entity tag #dragonminez:npc_budokai, with 34 characters from every saga: Kid Goku, Kid Krillin, Bandit Yamcha, Young Yamcha, Jackie Chun, Jackie Chun (Full Power), Nam, Giran, Young Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, Goku, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Chi-Chi, Majunia, Krillin, Cyborg Tao Pai Pai, Mr. Satan, Goku (End), Vegeta (End), Majin Vegeta, Gohan (End), Piccolo, Videl, Android 18, Trunks, Goten, Shin, Kibito, Spopovich, Majin Buu, Uub, Pan and Goku (GT).
Each seat draws a character who isn't in the tournament yet, and the semi-finalist, the finalist and the champion are drawn first, so Gohan (End), Majin Vegeta and Mr. Satan are never drawn as contenders. Jackie Chun and Jackie Chun (Full Power) count as one character. The four Gokus (Kid Goku, Goku, Goku (End) and Goku (GT)) are different characters and can meet in the same bracket, and Vegeta (End) can still be drawn even though Majin Vegeta is the finalist.
Rewards
Beating Mr. Satan wins 1,800,000 TP and +5 alignment, with fireworks and the victory music. Losing a bout, withdrawing or being disqualified puts you on a 75-minute cooldown before you can enter again; winning starts the same cooldown.

Mr. Satan and Chiaotzu give side quests on the island, and one of Chiaotzu's sends you to Master Tien. Enemies spawned by these quests scale with your story difficulty.

Configuration and commands
The tournament is set up in config/dragonminez/tournaments/budokai.json, with the same fields as the other tournaments (see Tournaments); its rewards can also run commands for the winner. Operators can move the ring with /dmztournament ring budokai and clear cooldowns with /dmztournament cooldown clear <players> budokai.
In the story
The Classic Saga and the Buu Saga have their own World Tournament quests. They are story fights in the plains, not part of this tournament.
