Quick answers to the most common questions and issues that players and server owners run into. If your problem isn't here, follow the links to the reference pages, or start from the Beginner's Guide if you are new to the mod.

For players

Why can't I use ki attacks or strike attacks?

Ki and strike techniques need the Ki Control skill (every master teaches it), at least 5% Power Release (hold C to charge) and an empty main hand. Evasion techniques have the same requirements. See Techniques and Skills.

Why can't I fly?

Flight needs both the Fly and Ki Control skills, and at least 5% Power Release to take off. Press F to toggle it. See Controls.

How do I change the flight mode?

There are two flight modes, Combat and Search. Hold the Second Function key (Left Alt by default) and press the Fly key (F by default) to switch between them. You can also switch it, cap your flight speed and turn on Mode Lock from the Utility Menu (Movement → Fly). See Combat.

Why won't a master teach me?

Some masters lock their Skills, Train and new quests until your alignment fits: Good masters need 61 or more and Cell and Frieza 40 or less. Hover the locked option to see why. You also have to be within 10 blocks of a master who offers the skill, and your race has to be allowed to learn it. See Masters.

Why does my transformation keep dropping?

Every form drains a resource (usually Ki) while it is active. If you can't pay the drain, the form and any stack form are switched off and you return to base. Raise the form's mastery (it lowers the drain), power down (the drain scales with your Power Release) or invest in Energy for a bigger Ki pool. See Transformations and Training Points and Mastery.

Can I change my race, class or looks?

The Re-Customize wish (Shenron or Porunga) reopens the customization screen: you can change your appearance and class, but not your race, and you keep your stats and skills. Picking another race takes a full character reset, which wipes your progress. Mr. Popo's Haircut reopens the hair editor at any time. A Human can become an Android through Dr. Gero. See Character Customization.

Can I change my story difficulty?

The difficulty you pick the first time you open the Quests tab is permanent. The only way to change it is the Change Difficulty wish, which lets you choose again the next time you open the Quest Tree without resetting your saga progress. Joining a party on a higher difficulty also raises yours permanently. See Sagas.

How do I redistribute my stats?

Porunga's Reallocate Stats wish lets you redistribute your attribute points, and admins can do the same with /dmzstats relocate (see Commands). Dende's Reset Stats service at Kami's Lookout is a full character reset and asks for confirmation first.

What happens when I die?

With the Otherworld enabled, your spirit goes to the Otherworld with a halo instead of respawning normally. While dead you don't get hungry and you earn double TP. Fortuneteller Baba can let you "borrow time" in the living world, and the dragons' revive wishes bring dead players fully back to life (see Dragons and Wishes).

For server owners

"Priceless" forms or broken form values

A form shows "Priceless" in the Skills menu when its skill level has no TP cost and no quest grants it. If that happens to DragonMineZ's own forms, your form or skill config files are broken or were edited into an invalid state.

DragonMineZ upgrades outdated config files on its own after an update (see How to JSON), so first check the server log or the JSON load report in chat for a file that failed to load, fix it and run /dmzreload config.

Last resort: close the game or server, move the dragonminez folder out of your config folder (keep it as a backup), then start back up. DragonMineZ regenerates the config from its current defaults.

This only resets the config (config/dragonminez), not your world save or player progress. Any custom edits you made to those config files will be gone from the new files, so copy back what you need from your backup. See Reloading and Updating Changes.

Quests bugged after updating from an older version

Configured in: General Server ConfigautoUpdateQuests

DragonMineZ upgrades the default quest, saga and side-quest files of your world automatically when it starts (unless the server turned automatic quest updates off), keeping your edits. If quests are still stuck or bugged after an update, it is usually leftover story data from the previous version.

Fix: run /dmzrestoreupdate and confirm it (click the button, or run /dmzrestoreupdate confirm within 15 seconds). It deletes everything in the world's dragonminez/wishes, sagas and quests folders and regenerates the defaults for the current version, so back up any custom quests or wishes first. See Commands.

My config edits were reset or didn't apply

  • Syntax error: DragonMineZ couldn't read the file. It runs on default values for that file and leaves your file untouched; the log (and the JSON load report in chat) shows the file, line and column. Fix it and run /dmzreload config.
  • After a DragonMineZ update: outdated files are regenerated with the new defaults and your changed values merged back in. The previous file is in config/dragonminez/oldBackup/.
  • Typo in a key name: unknown keys are ignored and listed in the JSON load report.
  • Edited general-user.json by hand: that file is read by the client; restart the game, or change the option from the in-game Config tab.

See How to JSON and Configuration.

Players see a "JSON load report" in chat when they join

Configured in: General Server Configdeveloper.reportJsonProblemsInChat

That report lists JSON files that failed to load and default files DragonMineZ upgraded. Fix the listed files and run /dmzreload, or turn the report off in the developer section of General Server Config.

Mod structures aren't spawning

Configured in: General Server ConfiggenerateCustomStructures

First check that custom structure generation is turned on in General Server Config. You can also place DragonMineZ structures manually with the vanilla /place command:

/place structure dragonminez:<structure>

For example, /place structure dragonminez:goku_house. Type /place structure dragonminez: and use tab-completion to see every available structure. See Structures.

/dmzlocate finds where an already-generated structure is, for example /dmzlocate goku_house (see Commands).
