The Otherworld (dimension id dragonminez:otherworld) is the afterlife. When you die with the Otherworld system enabled, you don't simply respawn: your spirit travels here, marked with a halo, until you're revived. It is also home to King Kai, the Otherworld Tournament and, deep in Hell, the world boss Janemba.

Gravity

Configured in: Gravity ConfiggravityPerWorld

The Otherworld has normal gravity (×1.0) by default.

Layout

The Otherworld is built in three layers, stacked from top to bottom. The sky changes as you move between them.

Layer Height What's there
Tournament clouds Upper cloud deck (around Y 271) The Otherworld Tournament grounds (ring centre at 0, 355, −1200).
Cloud realm Main cloud deck (around Y 112) Where spirits arrive (0.5, 150, −44.5): King Yemma, Fortuneteller Baba, the Grand Kai and the Hell Ogre. Snake Way leads from here to King Kai's Planet, home of King Kai and Toribot.
Hell Below the clouds (up to Y 96) A rugged underworld of Hell Ground, Hell Stone and Hell Deepstone, with amethyst peaks, calcite crests and glowing froglight slopes. It's decorated with amethyst crystal spikes, giant bone spines, blackstone thorn balls and colourful candy orbs floating between Hell and the clouds.

The cloud layers are made of Otherworld Cloud blocks. The Otherworld has no ores: it's a gameplay space, not a place to gather resources. King Yemma's area, Snake Way and King Kai's Planet come from pre-generated regions that DragonMineZ copies into the world when the Otherworld is enabled.

King Yemma's palace, the whole of Snake Way and King Kai's Planet are protected from ki griefing like the master structures: ki attacks and other destructive moves can't break their blocks unless the allowKiGriefingMasterStructures gamerule is on (see Gamerules).

Hell

  • Red and Blue Ogres spawn on Hell's ground. They attack Evil-aligned players on sight, and anyone who hits them.
  • Mini Janemba stampede: spending a random 8 to 14 minutes in Hell (below Y 96, in survival or adventure, never on Peaceful) sends a stampede of 20 Mini Janembas charging at you. The timer is re-rolled after each stampede and whenever you leave Hell.
  • Janemba, a world boss, sleeps in a ring of spikes at the very bottom of Hell, about 1,000 blocks from the centre of the Otherworld. The Hell Ogre next to King Yemma tells you where to find it.

Otherworld Tournament

Main article: Otherworld Tournament

Talk to the Grand Kai and choose Tournament to be sent to the tournament grounds. The Otherworld Tournament Announcer hosts the Otherworld Tournament there and can send you back to the Grand Kai.

The grounds are built automatically the first time the server runs with the Otherworld enabled. Until they are finished, the Grand Kai tells you how far along they are. The grounds are a protected arena: survival players can't build or break blocks there (see Structures). Inside the Otherworld, /dmzlocate otherworld_tournament gives you the ring's coordinates.

Otherworld NPCs

NPC Where What they do
King Yemma Cloud realm Sends you back to the living world (your spawn point) when you're alive or on a temporary return.
Fortuneteller Baba Cloud realm Grants a temporary return to the living world (see below).
Grand Kai Cloud realm Story dialogue; sends you to the Otherworld Tournament grounds.
Hell Ogre Cloud realm Quest NPC about Janemba; tells you where its lair is and whether it's awake.
King Kai King Kai's Planet A master: teaches the Kaioken and the Spirit Bomb (Good alignment needed to train with him).
Toribot King Kai's Planet An easter-egg NPC with his own dialogue (see Masters).
Otherworld Tournament Announcer Tournament grounds Hosts the Otherworld Tournament.

Death and revival

Configured in: General Server ConfigotherworldActive

The Otherworld is the backbone of DragonMineZ's death system:

  • When you die, you arrive at the spirit arrival point as a haloed spirit instead of respawning normally. Dead players who end up anywhere else are moved there. Creative and spectator players are never moved.
  • While dead in the Otherworld you don't get hungry, and the Training Points you earn are multiplied by ×2 by default.
  • Dead players keep all their abilities (Space Pod, forms, techniques and so on).
  • You can be revived for good with the Bring us back to life! wish (see Shenron) or by an admin with /dmzrevive; the halo is managed with /dmzhalo. See Commands.

Server owners can switch the whole system off. When it's off, deaths use vanilla respawn, the Otherworld regions aren't installed and the tournament grounds aren't built.

Fortuneteller Baba's temporary return

Configured in: General Server ConfigbabaTemporaryRevive

Fortuneteller Baba can send a dead player back among the living. Her revive has a cooldown after each death (180 seconds by default).

  • If the server turns temporary returns off, Baba simply revives you and you are alive again.
  • By default, you stay dead (you keep your halo) but get one hour to walk the living world. Talk to King Yemma to actually travel there.
  • The timer is paused while you are in the Otherworld or knocked out. A small HUD panel shows the time left, with a (xN) tag when it runs faster, Paused in the Otherworld and KO while you are knocked out.
  • The timer runs faster in some worlds (Nether ×2, End ×3, Hyperbolic Time Chamber ×5, others ×1), while you are transformed (stronger, less mastered forms drain more), and with every temporary return you use (×1.5 per extra return, up to ×5).
  • You get warnings as time runs out. When it runs out you're sent back to the spirit arrival point, and you must wait one Overworld day (sleeping speeds it up) before Baba can send you out again.
  • During a temporary return a lethal hit knocks you out instead of killing you: you lose part of your remaining time and lie down for 30 seconds while slowly recovering health, ki and stamina, and nearby mobs leave you alone for a while. Sources that bypass invulnerability (such as /kill or the void) still kill you.
  • An optional hardcore setting (off by default) makes Baba's cooldown grow with every death.
Server settings These rules live in the gameplay section of the server config: otherworldDeadTpMultiplier (2), reviveCooldownSeconds (180), babaTemporaryRevive (on), babaTempReturnSeconds (3600), babaTimeMultiplierPerWorld and defaultBabaTimeMultiplier (for unlisted worlds), babaHardcoreEnabled (off) and babaHardcoreCooldownGrowth (0.5). The otherworldActive toggle in the worldGen section turns the whole Otherworld off.

Getting there

  • Dying while the Otherworld is enabled.
  • Travel by Space Pod once you complete Bulma's Otherworld Drive sidequest (the Otherworld must be enabled). The pod lands at 54, 210, 1082.

In the story, the Movies Saga brings you here for the Otherworld Tournament and Janemba, and the GT Saga also visits the Otherworld.
