If the Otherworld is enabled, dying sends you there as a spirit. After a short cooldown, Fortuneteller Baba (in the Otherworld) can let you borrow time: a temporary revive (1 hour by default) during which you walk the living world as a spirit with a halo. The timer pauses while you are in the Otherworld, and drains faster while you are transformed, in some dimensions, and each time you borrow time again.
