Training minigames are skill challenges taught by five masters. Each one has levels that get harder up to a cap, and pays Training Points for the time you keep playing, scaled by the level you reach, your grade and your current TP cost. They are the biggest deliberate source of TP in the game. Old Kai chains all five into the Ultimate Challenge.

Minigame Master What you do
Rhythm Mr. Popo Hit notes on a four-lane rhythm highway.
Ki Control Krillin Keep a drifting ki orb inside your ki bar.
Shadow Boxing Gohan Type key combos before the timers run out.
Precision Trunks Click circles when their shrinking rings meet them.
Gravity Vegeta Pilot a Saiyan pod through a canyon of rock pillars.

Learning a minigame

  • Play the game from its master's Train option and reach level 5 in 3 runs. Mr. Popo only offers Rhythm inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
  • Once learned, you can replay it any time from the Minigames tab of the Character Menu (V).
  • Mentor bonus: a game you already know, started from its master's menu, pays +25%.

Rewards

  • Rewards depend on how long you train, the level you reach and your grade (performance), and they scale with your current TP cost per stat point, so they stay worthwhile as you grow.
  • The server checks every run, so rewards can't be faked.
  • There is no per-game TP cap by default.
  • The Progression TP boost doesn't apply to minigames, since they already scale with your stat cost. Your other TP boosts do; see Training Points and Mastery.
Server settings All minigame tuning lives in config/dragonminez/training.json, including the master of each game, the mentor bonus (mentorBonus) and the per-game TP cap (tpsLimitPerGame).

The minigames

Rhythm

Taught by Mr. Popo, inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. A four-lane rhythm highway: press A S K L (or the arrow keys) as each note crosses the hit line, and hold long notes. Misses drain your health.

  • Play Free Training or any music disc you carry, at Easy, Normal, Hard or Expert, each with its own TP multiplier.
  • Finishing a disc's song with at least 75% accuracy "learns" it, so you can replay it without the disc.

Ki Control

Taught by Krillin. Hold Space, W, ↑ or the left mouse button to push your ki bar up, and release to let it fall, keeping the drifting ki orb inside the bar. The bar shrinks and the orb speeds up each level; the run ends when the meter empties.

Shadow Boxing

Taught by Gohan. Type the combo of keys (letters A–Z and digits 0–9) shown on screen, in order, before the timers run out. Letters follow your keyboard layout, so AZERTY and other layouts work. Combos grow up to 8 keys, and you have 3 lives.

Precision

Taught by Trunks. Click each circle the moment its shrinking ring meets it (Perfect or Good); mistimed or ignored circles cost points.

Gravity

Taught by Vegeta. Pilot a Saiyan pod through a canyon of rock pillars by tapping the thruster (Space, W, ↑ or left click). Hitting a rock or the ground costs one of your 3 lives.

Old Kai's Ultimate Challenge

With an alignment of 62 or higher and Potential Unlock level 10, Old Kai's Unleash Power option starts the Ultimate Challenge: the five minigames back to back, in this order: Ki Control, Gravity, Shadow Boxing, Precision and Rhythm. Each one runs until you clear its target level (level 10, or level 6 for Rhythm). Clearing all five:

  • unlocks the Ultimate skill;
  • gives you the Z Sword, only the first time you complete it.

Both are needed for the Buu Saga quest The Z Sword and Ultimate Power.

Shadow Clone and Shadow Dummy

Every master who teaches also offers a Shadow Clone in their Train option: it spawns a Shadow Dummy copy of you to spar with.

The Shadow Dummy isn't a master minigame, but it lives in the same Minigames tab. Once you know the Ki Control skill, have reached Ki Manipulation level 5 and have killed a Shadow Dummy at least once, you can manifest a Shadow Dummy made of your own ki, with 25–75% of your stats:

  • It fights on its own, but you lose that same percentage of your stats while it lives.
  • Kills and hits on it give +25% to +75% extra TP, matching the stat share you gave it.
  • It doubles as a sparring partner for form mastery, since mastery grows from both dealing and taking hits while transformed.
Tip Learn all five games and rotate through them, starting each one from its master for the mentor bonus. Wear weights, keep a TP boost such as Kami's Blessing running, and spar a Shadow Dummy between runs to bank form mastery at the same time.
