Chiaotzu
Chiaotzu is Master Tien's closest friend. He stands next to Tien on the World Martial Arts Tournament island, where he gives three side quests, and he can be drawn as a contender in the tournament itself. He is also an opponent in the Classic Saga.
Finding him
Chiaotzu stands next to Master Tien on the island of the World Martial Arts Tournament, about 130 blocks from the ring. Find the island with /dmzlocate budokai_tenkaichi or a map from a Capsule Corp Assistant of tier 3 or higher.
Alignment
Chiaotzu talks to every character, but if your alignment is below 41 he greets you coldly and his side quests show as locked ("Requires an alignment of 41 or higher."). Any side quest you have already started stays open. Below 25 he treats you as hostile. Server owners can change both limits in the NPC alignment rules (see NPC Placement and Alignment).
In the tournament
Chiaotzu is one of the contenders of the World Martial Arts Tournament. Each contender seat draws a random fighter from the pool, and his stats come from the seat: by default between 147,000 and 392,000 health, 6,100 to 16,300 melee damage and 5,500 to 14,700 ki damage, on the Smart or Elite AI tier, and 8% stronger for every round already played. Bouts end at knockout, so nobody dies.
Behavior and abilities
Chiaotzu is child-sized and flies, with a white aura.
- Ki Laser: a quick yellow beam, his only ki attack.
- Dodging: every so often he steps out of the way of an attack.
- Self-destruct: when his health drops to a quarter, he latches onto his target's back and explodes 3 seconds later, hurting everything within 5 blocks for four times his melee damage.
How well he fights depends on his AI tier (see enemy AI tiers).
In the story
The Classic Saga quest Tournament: Chiaotzu is a fight against him. Completing it opens his side quests.
Side quests
A Gift for Tien has you deliver food to Master Tien, and Shadow of the Crane School also needs the Classic Saga quest Tournament: Cyborg Tao. Enemies spawned by these quests scale with your story difficulty.
